Abido Allspice is pure ground pimento berry - the 'sweet spice' (bahar helou) that gives Lebanese kibbeh, kafta, hashweh rice and stews their signature warm, clove-cinnamon-nutmeg note. One ingredient, nothing added. Abido Spices has been Lebanon's best-known spice house since 1950 - still family-run, grinding and blending at its own ISO 22000-certified factory in Naameh, just south of Beirut.
Allspice is the backbone of Levantine cooking and just as useful in Caribbean jerk, pickles, mulled drinks, Christmas baking and pumpkin pie. Finely ground so it blends straight into mince, rice or dough.
How to use it
- Kibbeh & kafta – Use 1 tsp per 500g minced meat with onion, parsley and a pinch of cinnamon.
- Rice & stews – Add 1/2 tsp to hashweh rice, mloukhieh, bamieh and yakhneh stews.
- Baking & drinks – Pumpkin pie, gingerbread, mulled wine and spiced cider - allspice carries clove, cinnamon and nutmeg in one.
- Marinades – Combine with black pepper, garlic and lemon for Caribbean jerk or Lebanese grilled meat.

No - it is a single berry (Pimenta dioica) that naturally tastes of cloves, cinnamon and nutmeg combined.
