About this product
Abido Fenugreek Powder is finely ground fenugreek seed (helbeh naameh / methi powder) - the warm, maple-bitter spice behind Lebanese helbeh cake, Yemeni hilbeh paste, Egyptian fenugreek tea, curry powders, pickles and marinades. Abido Spices has been Lebanon's best-known spice house since 1950 - still family-run, grinding and blending at its own ISO 22000-certified factory in Naameh, just south of Beirut.
Already ground, so there is no toasting or grinding to do: stir it straight into dough, batter, curry bases, spice rubs or a cup of hot water with honey. The sachet keeps the powder dry and fragrant.
How to use it
- Fenugreek tea – Stir 1/2 tsp into a cup of hot water, steep 5 minutes and sweeten with honey.
- Curries & dals – Add 1/2 tsp with the other ground spices; a little goes a long way.
- Helbeh cake / hilbeh – Use 1-2 tbsp in the semolina batter, or whisk 1 tbsp with water, garlic and lemon for hilbeh paste.
- Rubs & marinades – Blend 1 tsp with paprika, cumin and garlic for chicken, lamb or roast vegetables.

Why is it bitter?
Fenugreek is naturally bitter; it mellows with cooking, and a pinch of sugar or honey balances it in drinks.
Is it the same as methi?
Yes - methi is the Indian name for fenugreek; helbeh/hilbeh is the Arabic.

None listed in the ingredients; Abido's pack states it may contain traces of wheat (gluten), sesame and mustard.
