Greenfields Star Anise 50g

Greenfields Star Aniseed is the whole star-shaped fruit of the Illicium verum plant, with a warm, sweet, liquorice-like flavour. Greenfields is a London-based herbs and spices brand that has supplied quality ingredients since 1982.

Add it whole to Chinese red-braised dishes, Vietnamese pho broth, biryani and curries, mulled wine, poached fruit and syrups, then remove before serving.

How to use it

• Pho & broths – Toast 2–3 stars in a dry pan and simmer in the broth with cinnamon and cloves.
• Chinese braises – Add 1–2 stars to red-braised pork or beef.
• Mulled wine & poached fruit – Simmer a star or two with the wine or syrup.

Good to know

Is it the same as aniseed?

No – star anise is a different plant from aniseed, although both have a liquorice-like flavour.

Why are there white crystals?

The natural oils can crystallise in the cold; this is normal and disappears when warmed.

What allergens does it contain?

None of the 14 major allergens are listed in the ingredients. Greenfields states that some of its blends are made in a facility that also handles sesame, mustard and celery. If you have a severe allergy, please check the pack label before use.

How should I store it?

Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Reseal the pack (or decant into an airtight jar) after opening.
