Xin'anyuan Gunpowder Green Tea 175g

Xin'anyuan China Green Tea Special Gunpowder is a classic Chinese green tea whose leaves are tightly rolled into small pellets – the “gunpowder” – that unfurl as they brew into a fresh, aromatic cup with a smooth, slightly smoky taste. Product of China, 175g in a sealed box that keeps the tea fresh.

The tea of choice for North African mint tea (atay): brew it with fresh mint and sugar in a teapot. Also delicious on its own, plain or with a touch of honey, hot or iced, and the pellets can be re-steeped 2–3 times. A 175g pack makes around 85 cups.

How to enjoy it

• How to brew – Use 1 teaspoon (about 2g) per cup. Let boiled water cool for 2–3 minutes (to around 80–85°C), pour over and brew for 2–3 minutes. Re-steep the same leaves 2–3 times.
• Moroccan-style mint tea – Add 2 teaspoons of tea to a teapot, rinse quickly with hot water and discard. Add a large handful of fresh mint, sugar to taste and hot water, steep 3–4 minutes and pour from a height into small glasses.
• Iced – Brew double strength, cool and pour over ice with lemon or mint.
