About this product
Madina Date Paste is the brand’s thick, smooth date paste – the same paste as the Madina Date Paste in our shop – blended with one of three classic flavours: Sesame (whole sesame seeds through the paste and over the top), Black Seed (nigella seeds – kalonji / habbatus sauda) or Cardamom. Deep, caramel-like and naturally sweet, it is ready to slice, spread, stir and bake with – no stoning, no blending. Choose your flavour from the options above; each is a generous 700g tub.
Slice it into fingers and serve with coffee or tea as a sweet, spread it on toast, flatbread or crackers, stir a spoonful into warm milk, roll it into energy balls, fill maamoul and ka’ak, swirl it through porridge and yoghurt, or use it as a natural sweetener in cakes, flapjacks and cookies.
Choose your flavour
| Flavour | Made with | Taste & good for |
|---|---|---|
| Sesame | Dates & whole sesame seeds | Nutty crunch through sweet date paste – the classic coffee-time sweet; slice it, spread it on warm bread or bake with it. Contains sesame. |
| Black Seed | Dates & black seed (Nigella sativa) | Lightly peppery, aromatic nigella seeds (kalonji / habbatus sauda) through the sweet date – by the spoon, in warm milk or on toast |
| Cardamom | Dates & cardamom | Warm and fragrant, like Gulf and South Asian sweets – lovely with milk, tea and coffee, and in maamoul and energy balls |
| Size | 700g tub with lid | All three flavours come in the same 700g resealable tub |
Ways to use flavoured date paste
- With coffee & tea – Slice the paste into fingers or cubes and serve with Arabic coffee, karak chai or a pot of tea – the sesame and cardamom tubs especially.
- Spread – Spread it on toast, flatbread, crackers or rice cakes, on its own or with butter, tahini, labneh or nut butter.
- By the spoon – A teaspoon or two at suhoor, iftar or breakfast, or stirred into a glass of warm milk.
- Energy balls – Mix with oats, ground nuts, seeds and cocoa and roll into balls – the paste binds the mix and the flavour is already in it.
- Maamoul & ka’ak – Roll the cardamom or sesame paste into small balls or logs and wrap them in maamoul or ka’ak dough for Ramadan and Eid baking.
- Breakfast & baking – Swirl it through porridge, overnight oats or yoghurt, or swap it for sugar in cakes, flapjacks and cookies – roughly like for like, reducing the other liquid a little.
- To loosen – Date paste is thick. Knead it with a little soft butter or oil for fillings, or stir in a little warm water or milk for a spreadable consistency.
Good to know
Which flavour should I choose?
Sesame is the classic coffee-time sweet – nutty crunch through sweet date paste. Black Seed is lightly peppery and aromatic – the traditional pairing of dates and nigella. Cardamom is warm and fragrant – lovely with milk, tea and in baking. All three are the same 700g tub.
Is this the same as your Madina Date Paste 1kg?
It is the same brand of date paste, in 700g tubs with a flavour blended in. The plain 1kg/5kg Madina Date Paste is for bulk baking.
Does it contain added sugar?
The brand lists dates plus the flavouring (sesame seeds, black seed or cardamom) and nothing else, so the sweetness comes from the fruit. Dates naturally contain sugars. Please check the pack label for the definitive ingredients list.
Which tub contains allergens?
The Sesame tub contains sesame. All three carry the brand’s “may contain peanuts, other nuts and sesame” warning – please read the label.
How do I serve it?
Slice it into fingers with coffee or tea, spread it on warm bread, stir it into warm milk, or use it in energy balls, maamoul and baking.
How should I store it after opening?
Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Once opened, keep the lid on and use within a few weeks; keeping it in the fridge keeps it fresher for longer, and it can also be frozen in portions.
What is the best before date?
It is printed on the pack. If you need a particular date, please contact us before you order.
