About this product
Madina Fig Paste is a dense, sweet paste made from dried figs – the fruit ground down with its tiny crunchy seeds into a thick, sliceable paste with the deep, jammy, honeyed taste of a good dried fig (anjeer). Choose Plain, or Walnut – the same fig paste studded with walnut pieces, the classic Mediterranean and Middle Eastern pairing – from the options above. Each is a generous 700g tub.
Slice it onto a cheese board (fig and cheese is a classic), serve it in fingers with coffee or tea, spread it on toast and crackers, use it as the filling for fig rolls, bars and pastries, roll it into energy balls, swirl it through porridge and yoghurt, or add it to tagines, stuffings and salads for a sweet note.
Choose your tub
| Option | Made with | Taste & good for |

| Size | 700g tub with lid | Both options come in the same 700g resealable tub |
Ways to use fig paste
- Cheese board – Slice it thinly and serve with manchego, cheddar, blue cheese, goat’s cheese or halloumi – fig paste does what quince paste (membrillo) does, with more fruit.
- With coffee & tea – Cut it into fingers or cubes and serve as a sweet with Arabic coffee, Turkish tea or an afternoon cuppa – the walnut tub especially.
- Fig rolls & bars – Roll the paste into a log and wrap it in shortcrust or oat dough for homemade fig rolls, or press it between oat layers for fig bars.
- Spread – Spread it on toast, crackers, flatbread or rice cakes, on its own or with butter, cream cheese, labneh or nut butter.
- Energy balls & baking – Mix with oats, ground nuts and seeds and roll into balls, or use it as a filling for maamoul, pastries and cakes.
- Savoury – Add a spoonful to tagines, stuffings, glazes and grain salads, or melt it with a little balsamic vinegar for a glaze for roast meats and vegetables.
- To loosen – Fig paste is firm. Knead it with a little warm water, orange juice or oil for a softer, spreadable paste.
Good to know
What is fig paste?
Dried figs ground down into a thick, sweet paste – seeds and all. It tastes like a concentrated dried fig: jammy, honeyed and a little nutty, with the gentle crunch of the seeds. It slices, spreads and bakes like date paste or quince paste.
Plain or Walnut?
Plain is pure fig paste – the all-rounder for cheese boards, fig rolls, baking and toast. Walnut is the same paste with walnut pieces for the classic fig-and-walnut combination – lovely with cheese or coffee. The Walnut tub contains tree nuts.
Does it contain added sugar?
The sweetness comes from the figs themselves. Please check the pack label for the full ingredients list.
Can I use it instead of quince paste (membrillo)?
Yes – slice it onto a cheese board in just the same way. It pairs especially well with manchego, cheddar, blue and goat’s cheeses.
How do I make fig rolls with it?
Roll the paste into a log about 2cm thick, wrap it in a strip of shortcrust or oat pastry, seal, cut into pieces and bake until golden.
How should I store it after opening?
Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Once opened, keep the lid on and use within a few weeks; keeping it in the fridge keeps it fresher for longer, and it can also be frozen in portions.
What is the best before date?
It is printed on the pack. If you need a particular date, please contact us before you order.
