About this product

Madina Raisin Paste is a thick, smooth paste made from raisins – dried grapes (kishmish) ground down into a dense, spoonable paste with the mellow, honeyed sweetness of the fruit. It does what date paste does, with the lighter, fruitier taste of raisins: a natural sweetener for baking, a ready-made filling for pastries and bars, and a spread for toast and porridge – no soaking, no blending. This is a generous 700g tub.

Swap it for sugar in cakes, flapjacks, cookies and bread, use it as the filling for rolls, bars and pastries, roll it into energy balls, blend it into smoothies, swirl it through porridge and yoghurt, spread it on toast, or add a spoonful to chutneys, tagines and curries for a sweet note.

What you get

Product Made with Good for
Raisin paste – 700g tub Raisins (dried grapes) Natural sweetener for baking, fillings for pastries and bars, energy balls, smoothies, porridge and toast
Please note: Raisin paste is a natural product, so its colour, firmness and sweetness vary slightly from batch to batch.

Ways to use raisin paste

  • Natural sweetener – Swap it for sugar in cakes, muffins, flapjacks, cookies and fruit bread – roughly like for like, reducing the other liquid a little, as the paste is moist.
  • Fillings – Roll it into a log and wrap it in pastry for fruit rolls, spread it between oat layers for bars, or use it to fill pastries, pinwheels and stuffed buns.
  • Energy balls & bars – Mix with oats, ground nuts, seeds and cocoa and roll into balls or press into bars – the paste binds the mix.
  • Breakfast – Swirl it through porridge, overnight oats or yoghurt, or spread it on toast and crumpets with butter or nut butter.
  • Smoothies – Blend a spoonful into smoothies and milkshakes instead of honey or syrup.
  • Savoury – Stir a spoonful into chutneys, tagines, pilafs, kormas and stuffings for the sweetness raisins bring to those dishes.
  • To loosen – Raisin paste is thick. Stir in a little warm water, juice or milk for a spreadable or pourable consistency.

Good to know

What is raisin paste?

Raisins (dried grapes) ground down into a thick, smooth paste – a natural sweetener and binder that tastes like a concentrated raisin: mellow, fruity and honeyed. It is used like date paste, with a lighter flavour.

Can I bake with it instead of sugar?

Yes – swap it for sugar roughly like for like and reduce the other liquid a little. It also binds flapjacks, bars and energy balls.

Does it contain added sugar?

The sweetness comes from the raisins themselves. Please check the pack label for the full ingredients list.

Is it the same as your date paste?

No – this is made from raisins, so it is lighter and fruitier. Madina date paste (plain and flavoured) and fig paste are also in our shop.

How should I store it after opening?

Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Once opened, keep the lid on and use within a few weeks; keeping it in the fridge keeps it fresher for longer, and it can also be frozen in portions.

What is the best before date?

It is printed on the pack. If you need a particular date, please contact us before you order.
