About this product
Madina Ajwa Date Paste is a smooth, dark, spoonable paste made from Ajwa dates – the small, dark, soft date variety grown in and around Madinah and prized across the Muslim world. Deep, caramel-like and naturally sweet, it is Ajwa in its most convenient form: no stones, no chopping, ready for the spoon, the toast or the mixing bowl. Choose Plain, with Black Seed (Nigella sativa) or with Cardamom & Cloves, in a 250g pot or a 700g pack, from the options above.
Take a spoonful at suhoor, iftar or breakfast, spread it on toast, flatbread or crackers, stir it into warm milk for a date drink, blend it into smoothies and shakes, swirl it through porridge and yoghurt, roll it into energy balls, or use it to fill maamoul and sweeten your baking.
Choose your flavour and size
| Flavour | Made with | Taste & good for |
|---|---|---|
| Plain | Ajwa dates | Pure Ajwa – deep, caramel-like and naturally sweet; the all-rounder for the spoon, toast, milk and baking |

| Cardamom & Cloves | Ajwa dates, cardamom & cloves | Warm and fragrant, like Gulf and South Asian sweets – lovely with milk, tea and in baking |
| Sizes | 250g pot or 700g pack | Every flavour comes in both sizes – the 700g is the better price per 100g |
Ways to use Ajwa date paste
- By the spoon – A teaspoon or two at suhoor, iftar or breakfast – straight from the pot, or stirred into a glass of warm milk or water for a quick date drink.
- Spread – Spread it on toast, flatbread, crackers or rice cakes, on its own or with butter, tahini or nut butter.
- Smoothies & shakes – Blend a spoonful with milk, banana and oats for a date shake, or add it to any smoothie as the sweetener.
- Breakfast – Swirl it through porridge, overnight oats or yoghurt.
- Energy balls & baking – Mix with oats, ground nuts, seeds and cocoa and roll into balls, or use it as a maamoul and date-cookie filling and a sweetener in cakes and flapjacks.
- Gifting – The 250g pots make a thoughtful Ramadan, Eid or Hajj/Umrah return gift alongside Ajwa dates.
- To loosen – Date paste is thick. For a spreadable or pourable consistency, stir in a little warm water or milk.
Good to know
What is Ajwa date paste?
A smooth paste made from Ajwa dates – the small, dark, soft date variety grown around Madinah. It is Ajwa with the stones removed and the flesh worked into a spoonable paste, so it is ready to eat, spread, stir into drinks or bake with.
Which flavour should I choose?
Plain gives the pure Ajwa taste. Black Seed adds the nutty, lightly peppery note of Nigella sativa (kalonji / habbatus sauda) – the classic pairing with Ajwa. Cardamom & Cloves is warm and fragrant, like Gulf and South Asian sweets. If in doubt, Plain is the all-rounder.
Does it contain added sugar?
The brand lists Ajwa dates as the ingredient of the plain paste, with just black seed or cardamom and cloves added in the blends – the sweetness comes from the dates. Dates naturally contain sugars. Please check the pack label for the definitive ingredients list.
Pot or pack?
The 250g comes in a pot with a lid that is easy to spoon from and reseal. The 700g is a larger pack for families and regular use – the better value per 100g.
How should I store it after opening?
Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Once opened, keep the lid on (or wrap the pack tightly) and use within a few weeks; keeping it in the fridge keeps it fresher for longer, and it can also be frozen in portions.
Is it the same as whole Ajwa dates?
It is made from Ajwa dates, in paste form. Whole Madina Ajwa dates and Madina Ajwa seed powder are also in our shop.
What is the best before date?
It is printed on the pack. If you need a particular date, please contact us before you order.
