About this product
Greenfields Basil Seeds are the small black seeds of the basil plant (Ocimum basilicum), with a mild, nutty taste similar to poppy seeds. Once soaked, each seed forms a soft gel coating with a slight crunch. Greenfields is a London-based herbs and spices brand that has supplied quality ingredients since 1982.
Soak them and add to falooda, milkshakes, lemonades, sherbets and iced drinks, desserts, puddings and yoghurt, or use them as a thickener – a popular alternative to chia seeds.
How to use it
- Soak first – Soak 1 teaspoon of seeds in a glass of water for about 15 minutes, until each seed is coated in a soft gel.
- Falooda – Layer the soaked seeds with rose syrup, vermicelli, milk and ice cream.
- Drinks – Stir into lemonade, rose milk or iced tea.
Good to know
Do I need to soak them?
Yes – always soak them in water before eating (Greenfields: “soak the seeds to eat”).
Are these for planting?
No – these are culinary basil seeds sold as food for drinks and desserts.
Are they the same as chia seeds?
No – they come from a different plant, but swell into a similar gel when soaked.
