Ways to use chopped dates
- Baking – Fold into date loaf, flapjacks, cookies, scones, muffins, fruit cake and Christmas cake – toss them in a little flour first so they spread evenly.
- Sticky toffee pudding – Soak the pieces in hot water or tea for 10 minutes, mash lightly and fold into the batter.
- Breakfast – Stir into porridge, overnight oats, muesli, granola and yoghurt.
- Energy balls & bars – Blend with oats, nuts, seeds and cocoa and press into balls or bars – the dates bind the mix.
- Savoury – Add to tagines, pilafs, couscous, stuffings, chutneys and grain salads for a sweet contrast.
- Snacking – Mix with nuts and seeds for a quick trail mix.
Good to know
Are the dates stoned?
Yes – chopped dates are pitted before cutting. As with all pitted dates, the occasional stone fragment can slip through, so please take care.
Do the pieces stick together?
Chopped dates are usually dusted with a little rice flour to keep them free-flowing (see the pack label). If a bag has compressed in transit, break the pieces up by hand or toss them in a spoonful of flour before baking.
Which size should I choose?
The 1kg bag suits home baking. The 10kg pack is 10 × 1kg bags – for bakeries, cafes, caterers, mosques and anyone cooking in bulk, at the best price per kg. Unopened bags keep for months in a cool cupboard.
Can I use them instead of whole dates?
Yes – they are the same dried dates, already stoned and cut, so weigh out the same amount the recipe asks for.
What is the best before date?
It is printed on the pack. If you need a particular date, please contact us before you order.
